Lirot

"There is no greater torment than the torment of blindness" [Midrash Tehilim]. About half a million citizens who suffer from eye diseases live in Israel. Every year, about 2,000 new blind people are added as well as many people who suffer from poor vision. Today, about 80% of cases of blindness can be prevented through medical treatment, if the patient arrives on time for treatment. Therefore, there is great importance in early diagnosis and having routine eye examinations throughout the years and every year after the age of 50. The "Lirot" association was founded in 2006 with the aim of funding research for the prevention of blindness and reducing the number of people affected by eye diseases in Israel. The board and scientific council of the "Lirot" association, consists of scientists and senior ophthalmologists, from Israel and abroad. The association was chosen to be an advisory body to the Ministry of Health on eye health issues, in the field of medicines and new technologies.
