Shalhevet (A Flame – in Hebrew) is a registered non- government organization. Our members are all volunteers (150) including the chairman and the Board. In the beautiful small town of kiryat tivon live 4000 seniors (above the age of 65). Our goal is to improve the quality of their life. So, we are initiating, planning and developing services in the community for the elderly of Kiryat Tivon. Also, we are representing the needs of the elderly and ensure that their needs are met through the development of joint community projects. Our main activity for elderly and holocaust survivors is a day center. It provides a community service for elderly who wish to live at home but need to be in a protective environment during the day. The center provides transportation to and from the center, hot meals, cultural and social activities, physiotherapy, a nurse, a social worker, a hair stylist and more. In the center we provide specialist response for elderly suffering from Alzheimer disease and for elderly suffering from Parkinson disease. In addition, we operate a supportive community program which provides emergency medical aid as well as a handyman who helps the elderly maintain their homes. We make home visits and phone calls to make sure that everything is fine. Beyond that, we run a cultural program and a health plan: Meals on wheels for elderly that can't make food at home support groups for caregivers, university of the third age, Bridge Club, gym, bicycle team, walking group, ping pong activity, computer club, Singing Group, tours and more.
