Dor l’Dor is a non-profit organisation that combats loneliness in the elderly population. One of our main activities is a platform called Help on the Way: -Volunteers provide help to elderly citizens who do not have family or friends nearby -The platform is a combination of a call centre for receiving requests (most of the population we serve are not comfortable using a smartphone) and an app for distributing these to one of our 3,000 volunteers -Through our app, each volunteer can choose which request to help with -We work with several municipalities including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Beer Sheva and more WHAT WE ARE DOING AROUND COVID19 Elderly people are high risk and more people than ever are calling on our services. Many are feeling scared and abandoned. We’re doing everything we can but WE WERE NOT SET UP TO SUPPORT SUCH A LARGE POPULATION IN A CRISIS like this. -Help on the Way is now the entire focus of our energies as elderly people are afraid to leave their homes for basic needs such as FOOD and MEDICATION. -Due to our limited budget, it is staffed by only 1 person at a time receiving approximately 70 calls/hour (**compared to a pre-corona of 3/hour**) - more and more calls are going unanswered -In just the first week of lockdown in Israel, our volunteers delivered essential supplies to almost 400 homes, increasing as the week went on (with greater resources this number could have been higher) -Each week the situation gets more extreme and we receive more and more requests Thank you for your consideration!
