Machatzit Hashekel - Half Shekel

"This they shall give...half a shekel according to the holy shekel." (Shemot, 30,13)

Machatzit Hashekel is the traditional giving of half shekel value on the month of Adar, commemorating the silver coins given during Temple times for communal purposes and sacrifices. These days, it is sutomary to give the value of 10 grams of silver for each adult or child over the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah. As of 2019, the value is estimated at 5$. Since we can't give to the Temple just yet, it is customary to support yeshivas and Torah scholars with the money of Machatzit Hashekel. We invite you to strengthen the Torah in the city of Nahariya through our Yeshiva where the boys combine serious Torah learning and meaningful army service.
