There is opera in Jerusalem!! Did you know?? The Jerusalem Opera, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, continues to bring high quality opera productions to Jerusalem, our Capital, with tickets at an affordable price. However, we now need your financial support so that we can bring a production of the opera “The Yellow Princess” by Saint-Saens to the stage at the Jerusalem Theatre. The story tells of the student Kornelis, who is enchanted with all things Japanese and his cousin Lena, who is in love with him. Kornelis is transfixed with a portrait hanging in his room of Ming, a young Japanese woman, and is unaware of Lena’s love for him. As a result of drinking an aphrodisiac, he fantasizes and hallucinates, believing he has reached Japan. But the drug slowly wears off and he soberly understands that he in fact loves Lena. The music by Saint-Saens, performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Omer Arieli, is wonderful. The talented Israeli singers Ron Silberstein and Nika Yankalevich, the choir and dancers of the Jerusalem Opera are all marvelous, all under the original and special stage direction by Noemi Shlosser.
