HOLDING UP THE HOME FRONT: Build dormitory safe rooms for talmidei Yeshivat Ma’ale Gilboa

The atrocities that were committed on October 7th, 2023, and the ensuing Iron Swords War have put all of us here in Israel in a position of reassessing our security arrangements within our homes and community institutions.  Rocket fire is no longer a theoretical threat for most Israelis but rather a very real trauma. Having a functional mamad (safe room) nearby is a must for all institutions, and when young men join our Yeshivat Ma’ale Gilboa and when parents entrust us with their sons, they rely on our ability to keep them safe and protected. The current mamad setup in the yeshiva includes one adjacent to the beit midrash and another two floors below, but the dorm buildings do not include mamadim within.  When sirens go off during breaks and at night, the current situation requires that talmidim exit the dorms completely in order to reach shelter at an external miklat.  You can change that. As parents of talmidim, long-time partners of the yeshiva, and bogrim, you know that we must remove all obstacles to safety. The changing needs of today require us to build mamadim within the dorms, so that our talmidim can reach their safe room without hesitation, within the required 60 seconds, and be confident that they are safe at all times – whether they are learning in the beit midrash, taking a break in the afternoon, engaging in philosophical debate late into the night, or sleeping in their beds.
