Stones with a Human Heart

"Stones with a Human Heart" project is a heartfelt initiative led by Chavi Ehrenfeld, a dedicated volunteer and co-manager at the Navah Organization, a non-profit that has been providing emotional and therapeutic support to bereaved families of Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror for over 20 years. This initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when decorated river stones became messengers of love and remembrance. Each stone was adorned with a personal message, blessing, or scripture, and placed on the grave of a fallen soldier on behalf of families who could not visit due to social distancing restrictions. What started as a local act of kindness quickly grew into a global initiative, crossing borders, nations, and communities. Thousands of donors, organizations, and volunteers from across Israel and the world have become vital links in this chain of compassion and solidarity. The "Stones with a Human Heart" project stands as a living testament to the power of unity and resilience. In the most challenging times, it reminds us that we are not just a nation, but a single, beating heart that unites all its parts. The memory of our fallen is not only a national duty- it is the cornerstone that sustains our collective strength, hope, and belief in a shared future. On Yom HaZikaron in 2024, approximately 100,000 decorated stones were placed in cemeteries across Israel, conveying messages of support, empathy, and solidarity. Since October 7, we have been navigating a period of profound complexity and grief, with the circle of bereaved families expanding daily. Thanks to generous contributions, we are able to continue spreading love and support to bereaved families and leading significant initiatives, such as the "Empty Chair" project. This project serves as an emotional anchor and a "The empty chair" project for bereaved families during one of the most challenging evenings of the year- Passover Seder Night.
