Empower Our Soldiers: Donate to the Emotional Support Dogs Project

The events of October 7th and the ongoing "Iron Swords" conflict have left many wounded and in need of rehabilitation. Including numerous soldiers and civilians from the surrounding area grappling with post-traumatic stress and a range of other emotional challenges. The longstanding Afikim Kennel, dedicated to therapeutic, educational, and rehabilitation services, has shifted its focus primarily to training emotional support dogs. These dogs play a crucial role in helping patients reintegrate into social circles, resume work and study routines, and regain a sense of normalcy similar to their pre-trauma lives. Over the years, Yaniv Assem, the Kennel Manager, has developed a unique model where individuals undergoing rehabilitation take responsibility for and train their own dogs. Under the close guidance of our skilled trainers, this early integration process has proven highly effective. Our extensive experience has shown that the mutual dependency and care between the soldier and the dog significantly contribute to the rehabilitation journey. In collaboration with "Kinneret", a non-profit project, established by Professor Dan Gazit from the Hebrew University and the Afikim Kennel was launched. This project begins by assessing the unique needs of each animal and matching them with the right soldier. It progresses through establishing a bond and effective communication between the soldier and the dog, and then focuses on identifying and addressing challenging situations. The ultimate goal is to establish a routine where the dog supports its owner, preventing them from becoming immobilized or falling into despair. The cost of acquiring, treating, and training these dogs is substantial. At "Afikim - Emotional Support Dogs," we firmly believe that everyone deserving of such rehabilitative care should have access to it, regardless of their circumstances or challenges.
