"In Shilo's Way" – these were the words declared by the youth of Merav on the 17th of Tammuz 5783, the day we lost our beloved Shilo, leaving our family broken-hearted. From this deep pain, we—children, teenagers, adults, and the entire family – chose to build and be built (livnot uLehibanot) in Shilo’s way: a path of joy, friendship, kindness, and profound love for our land and its people. Since the loss of Shilo, we have worked tirelessly to honor his memory in every way close to his heart and talents—through art, the Mishkan Shilo synagogue, a Torah scroll, a Chuppah, an embroidered Parochet, and more. Shilo's connection to the Land of Israel was woven into his very being. From his youth until his enlistment in the IDF, he worked in the kibbutz's agricultural sector, living and breathing the land he loved. Two years ago, while hiking in the Gilboa with his younger brother and best friend, Yishai, Shilo pointed to a spot and said, "We should plant vineyards here." He spoke simply, unaware of how his words would take root. Today, thanks to the initiative and support of dear friends, we have been entrusted with a plot of land in the Gilboa, right next to our home. We fenced the area and, through months of effort, transformed the rocky slope into living soil where we could honor Shilo's legacy. We brought in heavy machinery to break through the large rocks, transported rich, fertile soil, and laid the groundwork for planting. At the heart of the plot, we planted a wine vineyard. Seventeen rows of grapevines—corresponding to the number 17, the date Shilo fell—fulfill his vision and commemorate his unique personality. Just as wine brings joy to the heart, so too Shilo radiated light and brought joy to everyone he met. In another part of the plot, we will plant an olive grove, dedicating each tree to one of the fallen soldiers of the Givati Reconnaissance Company. This is our tribute to the unit that shaped Shilo as a warrior and strengthened his sense of purpose: to protect the land and people he so deeply loved. In addition, we built a wide stone terrace with foundations for two large pergolas, and plan to construct a designed terrace for a Chuppah, overlooking the vineyards and the breathtaking Gilboa sunsets to the west. Here, couples will stand as they begin their lives together, and thus Shilo, who always rejoiced in his friends' weddings with a radiant smile, will continue to accompany them in his special way. Our vision is for Shilo Vineyards to become a welcoming place for all—where people can breathe in the fresh mountain air, take in the beauty of nature and the Gilboa blooms, and connect with our people's deep roots and the ancient history of the Gilboa. A place that embraces bereaved families, honors the memory of those who gave their lives for our country, and, at the same time, radiates life, joy, and renewal. We dream of fostering a meaningful presence here, one that transforms the landscape, enhances the security of the region, and blends natural beauty, remembrance, and celebration of life. To bring this vision to life, to build and nurture this place, we need your support. Join us in Shilo’s Way!
