Purim is a time of joy, generosity, and unity. It is a holiday when we celebrate miracles, resilience, and the strength of the Jewish people. One of the most cherished traditions of Purim is Matanot La’Evyonim – giving to those in need. This year, we ask you to dedicate your Purim giving to the orphans of Israel’s fallen heroes. Since the horrific attacks of October 7, 2023, and the ongoing Swords of Iron War, the number of widows and orphans in need has surged in an unprecedented way. Following the funeral, the eulogies, the gun salute, and the shiva, life does not return to normal. For those left behind, a world of potential has been shattered – dreams dissolve, futures change forever, and what remains is a landscape of pain and profound loss. The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) is standing at a historic crossroads, called upon to provide urgent, expanded support to these newly bereaved families. Our mission is to help rebuild their lives by offering lifelong emotional, social, and financial support to ensure that these children grow up with dignity, security, and the promise of a bright future. On Purim, as we celebrate survival and renewal, let’s extend our hands to those who need us most. Just as soldiers have given everything for our safety and freedom, it is our collective responsibility to care for their children. In the photo: Alin Israel, orphan daughter of Lt. Col.
