Rebuilding Hope in Soroka

Dr. Ilana Harman Boehm was a specialist in internal medicine and diabetes. She served as head of Internal Medicine C and the Diabetes Unit at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba and was one of Israel’s leading educators in diabetes care. Until the day she passed away in September 2022, she remained wholly devoted to her patients in public medicine in the Negev, tirelessly advocating for quality, compassionate, and equal access to care for all. For more than four decades, Soroka Medical Center was her second home — and often, her first. During the recent war with Iran, Soroka Medical Center suffered extensive damage. As a result—and given the challenging times we are all experiencing—her family and loved ones have decided to commemorate her memory in a different way this year. In collaboration with Soroka Medical Center, we are launching a fundraising initiative to help rebuild and re-equip Soroka’s Endocrine Laboratory which was completely destroyed after sustaining a direct hit. This lab served as a critical facility for testing and treating diabetes patients — a field so close to Ilana’s heart. We invite you to join us in honoring Ilana’s legacy.
