Help Us Give Every Child the Childhood They Deserve Like the rest of Israeli society, the foreign-born community has faced profound upheaval over the past two years. Vulnerable populations are always the first to be affected in times of crisis. And as in every extreme situation—the children are the first to be hurt. Elifelet’s children have slipped even further from the public eye, at a time when Israeli society and Jewish communities abroad are focused on the war and on those directly impacted. Now, precisely now, is the moment to turn our gaze back to them. To remember that childhood does not pause or wait for better days. It is happening now—and there are children who need us. Alongside our ongoing daily work, this past year we identified an urgent new need: helping children close academic gaps and giving them a real chance to succeed. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty—something we, as children of immigrants ourselves, know deeply, and something the parents of these children understand all too well. With our years of close familiarity with the families, we know how much high-quality education matters to them. And as members of immigrant communities ourselves, we know that education is the most powerful path out of poverty. This is why we launched the Elifelet Pedagogical Center—a professional framework offering instruction in math, Hebrew literacy, and English. Our staff works in full coordination with schools and collaborates with leading experts to build individualized learning plans and support children as they prepare to transition into middle school. It is quiet, daily work, but its impact is immense: children who only a year ago were afraid to read aloud now open books on their own. Children who struggled with English are beginning to understand. Children who once seemed lost in the system are finding direction. Every child deserves a full, safe, joyful childhood—and a real opportunity to dream. But this opportunity is not guaranteed. A child who does not receive support today will carry that gap into the future. A girl who receives emotional, academic, and social guidance will grow with a stronger foundation, a sense of worth, and the ability to fulfill her potential. At a moment when it feels like the world is occupied with everything but them, we have the chance to turn our attention back to the children who are rarely seen or heard.
