The World Health Organization has declared this one of the top 10 public health threats facing humanity. At Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, a pioneering team of doctors and researchers is fighting back with one of medicine's most promising frontiers: Phage Therapy — using nature's own virus-like organisms, called bacteriophages, to seek out and destroy dangerous bacteria with extraordinary precision. Hadassah is already a world leader in this field. The team has treated patients from the United States, Germany, Belgium, and beyond — including a 42-year-old man who arrived at Hadassah after a near-fatal accident, facing above-the-knee amputation due to a life-threatening drug-resistant bone infection. Within days of phage treatment, his wound began to heal. Eight months later, he was infection-free — and kept his leg. Now, Hadassah is building a dedicated Phage Therapy Center — the first of its kind in Israel — to bring this life-saving treatment to many more patients.
