Memorializing Staff sergeant Roey Weiser z"l at Shaharit High School

Staff sergeant Roey Weiser z"l fell in battle at the Erez outpost on the Gaza border on October 7, 2023, while saving the lives of 12 other soldiers. To mark the graduation of the first cohort of Shaharit High School in Jerusalem, the students of the graduating class, among whom is his cousin, Sheina Weiser, chose to leave a meaningful legacy at the school by a stablishing a seating area in his memory. Throughout the year, the students were inspired by Roey's memorable personality and by the words of the Piaseczno Rebbe: “The greatest thing in the world is to do a kindness for someone else.” Roey, as his friends describe him, was exactly that kind of person—a true friend who was always there for others. He offered advice, listened, supported, and above all, brought laughter and light everywhere with him. He stood out for his sense of humor and his constant smile, and used to say that “life is much easier when you simply smile.” Wishing to keep alive Roey's spirit, the friendship, love and joy that he spread, the students seek to memorialize him by creating a warm and meaningful seating area at their school, one that will serve as a space for meeting one another, listening, and connection. A space that will be a living remembrance – Not only a commemoration, but a continuation of his path.
