The Rooftop Revolution

Jerusalem is changing rapidly. It is becoming denser, more congested, and fewer people are choosing to build their future in the city. But we believe Jerusalem’s future does not have to be a story of overcrowding, division, and declining quality of life. For the past 15 years, Muslala has been leading a quiet urban revolution from the rooftops. At the heart of our work is The Terrace on the roof of the Clal Center—a two-dunam urban park created on what was once an abandoned rooftop. Today, it serves as a public laboratory for developing innovative and community-oriented rooftop models. From this space, we have created projects that have been replicated across Jerusalem: rooftop gardens for seniors, gathering spaces for young families, community gardens, cultural hubs, and places for connection in dense neighborhoods that need more greenery, fresh air, and hope. Despite years of challenges—and despite the impact of the war on our organization—we have continued to build, create, and develop new rooftop projects throughout the city.
