For Youth Living in Darkness, Beit HaShanti Is the Light There is a kind of darkness we all know. It comes with sirens, difficult news, and days when it feels as though the ground is shifting beneath our feet. But there is another kind of darkness. The darkness of a teenage girl who doesn't know where she will sleep tonight. The darkness of a teenage boy wandering the streets because he has no safe place to return to. The darkness of a young woman who has lost faith in adults, in the world, and in herself. This is a darkness that doesn't disappear when the sun rises. It is a darkness people live in. In recent years, life in Israel has become more challenging for all of us. But for some young people, these challenges have become their everyday reality. For more than 40 years, Beit HaShanti has been there for these young people at their most difficult moments. And now, more than ever, as the need continues to grow, it is vital that we remain the place where the door stays open. Where the light stays on. Where a home is waiting for them.
