For most children, spending a weekend with friends, sleeping away from home or deciding for themselves how to spend the day are ordinary parts of growing up. For children and young people with physical disabilities, these simple experiences cannot always be taken for granted. Beit HaGalgalim was founded on the understanding that a child needs far more than accessibility. They need friends who truly know them, the freedom to try, choose and sometimes fail, and a community that sees beyond their disability to the person they are—and the person they can become. Each year, Beit HaGalgalim accompanies more than 400 children, young people and adults through six regional houses across Israel. Participants join a stable group of friends and volunteers who grow together over many years. They meet for residential weekends, summer camps and activities throughout the year. Yet the real transformation takes place between the activities: in the friendship that deepens, the first independent decision, the courage to speak up and the realization that “I belong here, and I have something to contribute.” This is the journey Beit HaGalgalim makes possible. Belonging strengthens identity. Identity builds confidence. Confidence opens the way to independence. Over time, children and young people who are given the space to grow become adults who make choices, lead and contribute to others. Approximately 400 volunteers accompany participants on this journey. They do not simply arrive to help with an activity. They build deep, consistent relationships and often remain part of participants’ lives for many years. Your donation makes this possible. It helps provide accessible transportation, professional guidance, residential weekends, summer camps and year-round activities.
