Shavot - the next generation of woman leaders

Shavot was established three years ago in order to enable girls to strengthen their sense of self-worth and to provide them with tools that will enable them to fulfill their aspirations. The organization runs several nationwide programs which help girls develop positive self-esteem and believe in themselves in the long run. This process is being achieved through meaningful experiences combining elements of goal setting, self-feedback, and learning about inspirational women. In Shavot we believe gender equality will start from the bottom – from the girls themselves. Studies show that when girls fail, they tend to blame themselves and attribute the failure to their traits or abilities - "I'm not smart enough, I'm not good at it." These thinking patterns cause girls to develop a fear of failure that accompanies them for the rest of their lives and prevents them from stepping out of their comfort zone as adult women. For example, research has shown that women will not apply for a job if they do not meet 100% (!) of the criteria, while men will apply even if they only meet 60%. How do we get the job of our dreams if we do not even apply? These tendencies of women prevent them from realizing their full potential at different stages in their lives, thus widening the gap between men and women. But these tendencies can be changed - they can and should be changed, and that is our goal. Shavot runs an annual mentoring program, an alumni program, and Bat-Mitzvah workshops, which help girls develop positive long-term self-esteem, through early experience in goal setting and self-feedback. As part of our mentoring program that operates today in Jerusalem, Ramat Gan, Rehovot and Bat-Yam, the girls meet with their student mentors once a week after school hours. Together they learn to see every failure as an opportunity for learning, to discover new strengths for themselves, to strive for higher goals and to realize them. Our other program is the Bat Mitzvah workshops for parents and daughters, through which we can get to more girls across the country, and manage to sustain our activities with self-income, almost without relying on philanthropy! Our next wild dream is to reach every third girl in Israel (and aspiring to expand abroad as well ...) and establish an alumni network for all Shavot's graduates ever!
