Letters from Arnold - Holocaust testimony

Now’s the time to add action to our words and our thoughts. We no longer have the luxury of standing by and assuming that someone else will help. Arnold Waldstein survived Theresienstadt Concentration Camp and Auschwitz Extermination Camp. After the war, in letters to his family in Canada, he describes his experience of this horrific period. As we witness the diminishing number of Holocaust survivors, Holocaust denial is raising its ugly head, and extremist groups around the world are gaining momentum. Now, more than ever, it is critical to preserve and use first-hand sources of information. Beit Theresienstadt is creating a new educational resource which will combine some of Arnold’s letters in English and Hebrew, with a selection of authentic drawings currently held in the museum archives. This material will serve the younger generations growing up in Israel and around the world, who will not have the opportunity or the privilege to meet any living survivor when they become adults. It will help deepen their understanding of the Holocaust in general, and of Theresienstadt in particular, and will also be a resource for research and commemoration. We are committed to doing the utmost to perpetuate the memory of this dark period of history.
