Zemereshet – Preserving and Reviving Early Hebrew Song

Zemereshet is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven project dedicated to preserving, researching, and sharing the early Hebrew songs that shaped the cultural voice of the Jewish people during the Zionist movement — from the late 19th century through the early years of the State of Israel. These songs — often forgotten, poorly documented, or surviving only in fragile recordings or oral memory — are not just melodies; they are living testimonies of a generation building a national home. Zemereshet is creating the most comprehensive open-access digital archive of early Hebrew song: lyrics, sheet music, rare recordings, and biographical information on the poets, composers, and performers who gave voice to a new Hebrew culture. Our website makes thousands of these songs accessible to all, and our public singing events help revive them in communal life. By supporting Zemereshet, you help rescue songs that history nearly lost, and make them available to educators, musicians, researchers — and the next generation. Join us in restoring the cultural soundtrack of modern Hebrew identity
