Dr. Dale J Lonis Scholarship Fund
Help us continue Dale’s legacy by making a donation in his honor
Dr. Dale J. Lonis passed away on March 20, 2022. Dale spent a lifetime leading others by conducting, coaching and teaching. He used humor, high energy and passion to share his values and knowledge in the pursuit of beauty and excellence. He had a profound impact on the field of music education and his thousands of students and colleagues will be forever grateful for his mentoring and leadership.
Anyone who knew Dale was touched by his positive outlook, kindness and spirit. He lived every day by his words, “Every day is a good day.” Many will continue to use these words as strength for the future.
Dale’s work with the Jerusalem Music Center (JMC) began in 1980 and continued until his last trip in December 2019. Dale found particular joy returning to Israel to work with these talented young musicians.
It was among Dale’s last wishes to start a foundation which will continue the work of great musicians with Israel’s top talents.
We will dedicate the Young Israel Philharmonic’s winter concert to Dale’s memory.
This concert will mark the launch of the Foundation in Dale’s memory and we hope that with your help – friends, students, colleagues, teachers and all who had the chance to work with him – to reach the foundation’s fundraising goal of 50,000$ a year.
$24,000 has already been raised.
The Jerusalem Music Center
The Jerusalem Music Centre (JMC) is the leading Israeli institute advancing and nurturing young gifted
musicians from all over the country and serves as an International music center in Jerusalem. The JMC
was founded in 1973 by legendary violinist Isaac Stern and Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek, with the
assistance of Yad Hanadiv (a Rothschild foundation) and the Jerusalem Foundation. In the last decade
the world-renowned pianist Murry Perahia has been leading the JMC as its president. The center’s
programs gather young exceptional players. During the activities a community is formed of young
musicians and the artists that hone them.
The JMC offers the public several concert series in which great musicians from Israel and abroad
performs. Professional recording of many Israeli and International artists take place at the JMC’s studio.
Nurturing young musicians
As its primary goal is educational, the JMC finds, nurtures and promotes outstanding young musicians
from throughout Israel, providing uniquely tailored programs that hone skills as soloists, and as
ensemble and orchestral players. Each of the JMC’s education program is designed to meet a specific
purpose and offers a set of skills, those that are necessary to every musician and those critical for each
instrument group. The JMC is proud of its education programs graduates and their formidable
achievements, in Israel and abroad, as soloists, leading orchestra players, chamber music players and
teachers.
