Promoting equal rights for people with disabilities in Israel For 30 years Bizchut has been promoting the rights of people with all types of disabilities and working to pave the way for a just and equal life for people with disabilities in Israel Bizchut has made many great strides. Our work was crucial in: 🏆 Equality: legislation of the Law for Equal Rights for People with Disabilities—significant legislation that protects the dignity and freedom of people with disabilities in all areas of life and prohibits discrimination in the field of employment! 🏆 Accessibility: legislation and regulation mandating physical accessibility and accessibility of services! 🏆 Education: promotion of the rights of children with disabilities in schools, physical accessibility in schools; adaptation of learning materials (braille books for example), transportation; inclusion; and more. 🏆 Access to justice: including legislation recognizing the rights of crime victims, suspects, and defendants with disabilities to have adapted investigative and court procedures. And even the inclusion of a clause in the Convention of Rights for People with Disabilities that requires legal procedures to be made accessible to people with disabilities. 🏆 Court: A precedent ruling received this year that grants social rights to workers in protected factories. 🏆 Social Services: A law passed just this year that recognizes the right of people with disabilities to receive social services that ensure inclusive community life. With many more groundbreaking achievements! But our work is far from done. And this year we too will continue to fight for and promote an equal, inclusive, and accessible society for people with disabilities. Bizchut is an independent civil society organization that does not receive government to ensure its ability to act independently. In order to continue our important work, we need your assistance. Your support and partnership will help us provide information through our Hotline; assistance, support, and micro-advocacy services; legal representation (including petitions to the High Court of Justice!), representation in Knesset committees and lobby for important new legislation and regulations. In 2023 we will work to: 🏆 Employment: promote equality for people with disabilities in employment. We will act to recognize the right of every person with a disability to work in the free market with the rights that every employee deserves and with the necessary accommodations as mandated by law! We will promote legislation that states that protected factories should be a temporary and for training purposes alone. They should not be used to keep people with disabilities out of the free market. 🏆 Community psychosocial services: fight against the ever-failing mental health system and ensure that people receive psychosocial services when needed without having to wait sometimes long periods (months and even sometimes over a year) to receive services. We will fight for the national program for the development of community services for children and youth with emotional difficulties has been sidelined by the ministries. And work so that the 1200 people living their lives in psychiatric hospitals without any medical justification and solely because there are not enough community services receive community services.
