The U. Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art displays the spiritual and artistic treasures of Italian Jewry - the earliest diaspora in the West, which dates back to the first century BCE. The museum's collection includes a wide variety of objects: holy arks, Judaica, documents, books and manuscripts, clothing, art, etc. The museum collects, displays and preserves items from most of the Jewish communities in Italy, from the 15th century to the present day. Our mission is to tell the story of Italian Jews and their contribution to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. The museum holds exhibitions on a variety of historical, artistic, and contemporary subjects. The museum is recognized by the state of Israel (Museums Law 1983) and enjoys the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites, philanthropic foundations and private supporters. The museum is housed in Beit Yehudei Italia- the heart of the Jewish Italian community in Jerusalem, next to the ancient synagogue that was brought in its entirety from Italy and is still in use today, both for prayers and as an integral part of the museum.
