Beit HaGalgalim (House of Wheels) creates a lifelong community for children, young people and adults with physical disabilities. Founded in 1979, we support more than 400 participants each year through six regional houses serving Israel’s diverse Jewish, Arab, Bedouin and Haredi communities.
Children with physical disabilities often have fewer opportunities to spend time independently with friends, make their own choices and participate fully in community life. Beit HaGalgalim gives them something both simple and transformative: a stable group of friends and volunteers who remain together over many years.
Participants meet throughout the year for residential weekends, group activities and summer camps. These are not isolated experiences. They are part of a long-term journey that can begin in childhood and continue through adolescence and adulthood.
The relationships formed along the way are the heart of our model. Within a community where they are known, valued and expected to participate, children and young people begin to see themselves differently. Belonging strengthens identity. Identity builds confidence. Confidence opens the way to greater independence, leadership and contribution.
As participants grow, Beit HaGalgalim continues to accompany them through leadership and independent-living programs, graduate activities and rehabilitative day services. They build practical skills, make decisions, advocate for themselves and take increasingly active roles in their communities.
Through Rolling Experience, our social enterprise, facilitators with disabilities lead experiential workshops for companies, schools and public institutions. Drawing on their own lives, they challenge assumptions, change attitudes and help build a more inclusive society. People too often viewed only as recipients of support become educators, professionals and leaders of social change.
Approximately 400 volunteers are central to this work. They are not occasional helpers. They become consistent figures in participants’ lives and partners in a shared journey. The organization also provides families with vital support, respite and greater confidence in their children’s future.
Your donation helps provide the accessible transportation, professional guidance, residential weekends, summer camps and year-round activities that make this long-term community possible.
A gift to Beit HaGalgalim provides far more than an activity. It gives a child friends, confidence, choices and a community in which to grow—and to which they can contribute.
