Pink Glasses- Medical Support for Holocaust Survivors

MISHKAFAIM VRUDUT (*"Pink Glasses") is a social enterprise working to mediate between Holocaust survivors and the public health system. Since our establishment in 2021 we have been able to provide over 3,000 Holocaust survivors with accessibility to medical tests and treatments in all areas of Israel, at no cost. We work closely with the hospitals and the health funds nationwide to accelerate medical appointments and remove bureaucratic obstacles. We arrange escorts and ambulances or other means of transportation, so that Holocaust survivors requiring nursing care can get to the medical institutions for their examinations. Additionally, so far we have conducted vision assessments and distributed over 600 pairs of eyeglasses, all free of charge. All this thanks to our collaboration with partnering entities that take enthusiastic part in this worthy cause. Evidence shows that a significant number of Holocaust survivors have difficulty receiving medical services provided by the public health system. For the most part, they are unable to navigate the bureaucratic and technological mazes, and in most cases have long wait times for their tests and treatments. The average age of Holocaust survivors is 85.5; 17% of them are aged 90 or older. Every day we lose an average of 40 Holocaust survivors - so clearly, we are working against time! It is our privilege and duty to join forces and take action in real time for the sake of the Holocaust survivors, who need us now more than ever.
