In these challenging times, as the security situation leaves us all facing uncertainty, anxiety has become a common and overwhelming experience. Questions like, 'When will the war end?' 'When will we be able to return home?' or 'What if something happens to our loved ones?' weigh heavily on us and our families, both personally and collectively. Unlike fear, which is specific, or worry, which is a normal part of life, anxiety arises when certain situations are perceived as threatening, potentially leading to emotional harm and impaired functioning. Infants and young children feel the stress and anxiety we adults project, and they may develop emotional and behavioral difficulties that can affect them for the rest of their lives.
Early interaction between a mother and her infant is critical for healthy development, as the mother instinctively perceives and responds to her baby's signals. However, when a mother is experiencing heightened anxiety, she may struggle to respond appropriately, potentially disrupting the necessary synchronization for the infant's development. Infants are highly sensitive to their mother's anxiety and, lacking the tools to cope, rely on early defense mechanisms that can have long-term effects on their development.
At the Mifne Center, we provide care for infants and toddlers dealing with anxiety and attachment disorders. We specialize in early intervention for autism and for infants at high risk of developing autism. We take advantage of the critical window of opportunity for brain development during the first two years of life, offering treatment that combines psychological, interpersonal, and environmental aspects. Parents play a significant role in the therapeutic process.
If you are pregnant, post-partum, or a mother of a toddler, and you find yourself experiencing persistent anxiety, we at the Mifne Center are here to help. We invite you to contact us for a consultation and support. Together, we can find the best approach for you and your child, giving you the tools to better cope with these difficult times.
These days are challenging for all of us, but for many families, they are even harder. Please help us continue our unique work and be there for them when they need it most.
