Purim is a time of joy, generosity, and unity. It is a chag when we celebrate miracles, resilience, and the strength of the Jewish people. One of the most cherished traditions of Purim is Matanos La’Evyonim – giving to those in need. This year, we ask you to dedicate some of your Purim giving to the orphans of the horrific attacks of October 7, 2023, and the ongoing Swords of Iron War. The number of widows and orphans in need has surged in an unprecedented way. Following the levaya, the hespedim and the shiva, life does not return to normal. For those left behind, a world of potential has been shattered – dreams dissolve, futures change forever, and what remains is a landscape of pain and profound loss. The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) is standing at a historic crossroads, called upon to provide urgent, expanded support to these newly bereaved families. Our mission is to help rebuild their lives by offering lifelong emotional, social, and financial support to ensure that these children grow up with dignity, security, and the promise of a bright future. On Purim, as we celebrate survival and renewal, let’s extend our hands to those who need us most. Just as chayalim have given everything for our safety and freedom, it is our collective responsibility to care for their children.
