Observing the memory of the late Captain Rebecca Henrietta Johanna Baruch - Ach Gadol

By Big Brother

No lone soldier is left behind – not in battle and not afterward. Together, we will reach another 1,000 soldiers.

Rivka served in the Field Intelligence Corps, a unit responsible for guarding the border with Gaza. She completed the officers’ course and continued serving in her battalion until her discharge in March 2023. After her military service, Rivka worked as a team leader for Habonim Dror Olami. Her friends described her as a principled and inspiring officer and friend — someone who never feared challenges and was always there for her soldiers, no matter what. Following the Hamas attack on October 7, Rivka was called up as a reserve officer to a unit within the Air Defense Array, where she was responsible for the ground security of the Iron Dome system. She was the first and only woman in her unit. After two intense months of reserve duty, in December 2023, Rivka traveled to South Africa to direct the Habonim summer camp. She returned to Israel on January 1, 2024, and immediately reported back to her base to continue serving her country. Shortly after returning, she contracted sinusitis, which unfortunately developed into a brain infection. Despite a brave, two-week fight for her life, Rivka passed away on January 21, 2024, while still in IDF service. Her family donated her organs, saving the lives of other Israelis. Rivka’s story is a powerful reminder that some of our heroes may survive the battlefield, but still fall while serving their country. Her legacy will live on — inspiring future generations to build a better home by dreaming big and fighting for what they believe in. In her memory, and with her family’s blessing, we plan to establish a scenic lookout point on Mount Gilboa — and you can be a part of this meaningful project.
