Lemonade Fund Wartime Grants

War grants for vulnerable women with breast cancer

Donors: 37

The Lemonade Fund is launching an emergency financial support program for women who are undergoing cancer treatment during the current Iran war, Operation Roaring Lion. Israeli roads are deserted as most non-essential work and public gatherings are cancelled. The entire land is under missile bombardment. Yet women in treatment for breast or gynecological cancer must get treatment because cancer does not stop for war. Aside from the stress of living in a warzone, the war is causing additional expenses which can be too costly for some patients. The problem: 2. Vulnerable populations often do not own cars. Public transport has been severely curtailed. Taxi rides are costly. 4. Economically disadvantaged families often cannot afford extra childcare. Schools and daycare are currently closed. 6. 100,000 Israeli reservists have been called to service. In many cases this leaves women alone without partners or other family support. Extra help is needed for those living alone or with small children. 8. Extra care for elderly patients is critical during a war. For older, seriously ill patients living alone, aid is needed to help them get to bomb shelters quickly, day or night. Or to accompany them to treatment. The solution: One time NIS 1200 Wartime grants for each qualified patient to help with these extra costs: 2. Transportation 4. Childcare  6. Extra household help 8. Eldercare  Target Goal: NIS 72,000 ($23,500) This will cover 60 wartime grants for patients in active treatment, recommended by social workers at healthcare facilities. Patients are carefully vetted and once approved, grants will be sent quickly, directly via bank transfer to our recipients. I’d like to extend our love and prayers to every cancer patient who is undergoing treatment during this war. And, to every social worker, doctor, nurse and aide, etc., who show up to work, at great personal risk to care for their patients. Because cancer does not stop for war.  The Lemonade Fund, since October 7, has pivoted to set up a special category of assistance for patients who are suffering from financial stress due specifically to war impact.  We wish you all safety during these challenging times and good health. With love, Shari Mendes, Founder and Director, Lemonade Fund
