Elifelet marks ten years since it began, as a humane response to the dire need of the infants in the “pirate daycares” in southern Tel Aviv. Ten years have passed with little change to the Asylum seekers’ status here in Israel. Less than 1% of asylum requests have been processed and of those, most have been denied. The children, born here, continue to grow without status, with few rights and no future. Thousands of volunteers have, and still are, taking part in the organization's mission to alleviate conditions in the pirate daycares, as tutors and counselors in the afterschool programs, delivering food packages to families in need, and so much more. More than 5000 children and their families have been helped by Elifelet since the NGO was established by journalist Yael Gvirtz in 2012. While their status has not yet been settled, there are hundreds of personal success stories that Elifelet has helped bring about. Since infancy, Elifelet has been by their side, adapting the programs to suit the children’s changing needs. Just two weeks ago, another school year began, with over 300 elementary school children in our afterschool program. As long as they are here, it is our responsibility to make sure their basic needs are met and that they grow up safe, able to dream, and with the tools to fulfill those dreams. For that reason Elifelet exists, providing the children with emotional and developmental care, a social worker to be their advocate, tutors to help with their studies and enrichment activities for their soul, such as music, art, sports and more. We need you with us, with them, to ensure that the children, unseen by most, are seen. As the Jewish New Year approaches we launched a crowdfunding campaign to tell their story and raise funds to allow us to continue our work. Your donation, big or small, makes a difference to the lives of Elifelet’s children, and so does the sharing of our campaign.
