Build Israel’s Next Generation of Rescue Leaders - Shahar Center
In the third week of the “Swords of Iron” war, Shahar Friedman - an IDF soldier, a beloved son, and a student who was part of our lives for many years - fell in battle.
Out of pain, we chose to build.
The Shahar Center was established in Shahar’s memory as a living mission: to train, empower, and guide a new generation of committed young men to become professional first responders and community protectors - and to connect their courage to real service, skills, and leadership.
What We Do
Shahar Center is a three-year training and leadership track designed to recruit and prepare Haredi youth for meaningful roles in Israeli society. Our participants train and progress toward qualification and service with:
* Magen David Adom (MDA)
* Israel Fire and Rescue Services
* Home Front Command
* The IDF and related frameworks, with a pathway toward furture service and academic advancement
This is not theory. It is hands-on training, discipline, responsibility, and real readiness - built for the challenges Israel faces today.
Why This Matters Now
Israel needs skilled responders, strong communities, and young leaders who are ready to act in emergencies - from routine incidents to national crises.
Shahar Center is a bridge:
* Between Haredi youth and national service
* Between **training and real-life deployment
* Between personal growth and public responsibility
And it is already proving itself as a successful model.
What We Are Building
To scale this work, we are building the Shahar Center as a permanent training hub, including:
* Advanced training equipment
* Practical labs and simulation spaces
* Scholarships for students
* Professional seminars, guest lecturers, and field training
*Partnership programs with Jewish communities abroad, including advanced instruction in first aid, security awareness, countering antisemitism, and terrorism preparedness - including training delivered by selected program graduates
About the Maale Association
Since 2017, Maale Association has led empowerment programs in Israel and abroad in:
* Self-defense and personal safety
* First aid and emergency readiness
* Community protection and resilience
* Combating antisemitism and strengthening Jewish security awareness
* Communication-based protection programs for women, men, and children
In times of need, the association also supports struggling families through **food card assistance**, especially during emergencies.
