The Adam Institute for Democracy and Peace (AI), established in 1987, is an Israeli educational NGO that promotes mutual respect, tolerance and coexistence across religious, ethnic and national groups; AI inculcates a world outlook that fosters and amplifies human and civil rights. The Adam Institute’s programs for civil society and formal and informal educational frameworks are modular in nature and tailored to suit the age, culture and specific needs of the participants/groups. Courses are taught using "Betzavta- Adam Institute's facilitation method", which encourages participants to reframe external conflicts as internal dilemmas. The “Betzavta” method incentivizes participants to look beyond all-or-nothing options to generate solutions that benefit everyone. Based on democratic principles, the method combines engaging, experiential learning that's rooted in philosophy, sociology, social psychology—and fun. Singular is the Adam Institute’s ability to respond educationally to our complex and ever-changing reality, adapting to current events with experiential activities. AI has published more than 30 books, training manuals, and curricula in Hebrew and Arabic, as well as in English, German and Polish. Its work has garnered seven prestigious awards.
