HelpUp – The Road to a Better Society – is an Israeli humanitarian, non-profit organization operating in Israel and across Africa. We believe in the power of volunteering to change reality. Volunteering transforms individuals into a community, connects people, and contributes to improving social dialogue. Since 2016, we have sent approximately 94 volunteer aid delegations to Africa – including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda. We always work in five core areas defined by the United Nations as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for developing countries: Healthcare – medical staff training, medical equipment, treatment. Water – access to running water, training and education. Nutrition – workshops, teaching simple and affordable techniques to improve food quality, providing basic information. Education – introducing new teaching methods, informal education. Infrastructure improvement – major renovations to schools including roofing, flooring, building kitchens, installing playgrounds, and providing desks and writing tables. In each of these fields, we have professional coordinators leading the activities. Our delegations include professionals in their fields: doctors, education experts, special education teams, water quality monitoring specialists, and nutrition professionals. Believing in the therapeutic power of volunteering, we also integrate volunteers coping with PTSD and mental health challenges. These delegations are accompanied by professional therapists and have a significant positive impact on the well-being of the volunteers themselves. In fact, 79% of volunteers report an increase in self-worth and a stronger sense of capability. Every delegation volunteers in Israel before traveling to Africa, and after their return they join our network of “Helpers” in Israel, continuing to participate in numerous volunteer projects locally. In Israel, we operate several volunteer initiatives: delegations to youth boarding schools for teenagers who immigrated alone without family, support for needy families, and corporate volunteer days. Our volunteer community also assists wherever volunteers are needed. Except for our CEO, everyone in our organization is a volunteer. We do not maintain offices and make every effort to direct maximum resources into the activities themselves.
